Two Albany, GA children have sustained injuries after being attacked by a Pit Bull, according to a recent Fox report. According to the story, a young boy was raking leaves in his yard when two brothers next door offered to help. When the boy agreed, the brothers jumped the fence in order to provide assistance. That’s when the dog broke loose from its restraints and lunged at the children.
The report does not indicate who owned the dog, but it does say that the animal attacked not one, but two of the boys. One of the boys was first bitten on the arm, and a second boy sustained severe injuries after the animal latched onto his head. Ultimately, he was rescued by the dog’s owner and taken to a nearby hospital.
The dog was then taken by Animal Control and brought to the Humane Society, where it will be held for at least 10 days. According to the Fox report, the dog may be released sooner if the owner can produce proof of vaccinations. The young victims should recover fully, but the story is still developing, and not a lot of details are known about the victims.
Statistically, we see time and time again that Pit Bulls have a heightened tendency to show aggressiveness toward human beings and other animals. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that Pit Bulls are responsible for more attacks than any other dog breed, by a large margin. Whether this is due to nature or nurture is a matter of debate, but the fact remains that Pit Bull owners should be especially diligent about watching their dogs around children. Children are attacked by dogs far more often than adults.
