Santa Rosa Man Arrested After Pit Bull Attack
A 90-year-old man suffered serious wounds to his leg after being attacked by a pit bull in Santa Rosa.
According to police reports, the victim, William Siemsen, was in his driveway on Monday afternoon when a pit bull belonging to 47-year-old Armando Flores suddenly charged him. The pit bull first attacked Mr. Siemsen's black lab before biting the man on the leg.
Mr. Flores was able to regain control of his dog and end the attack but not before both Mr. Siemsen and his dog suffered multiple injuries. Mr. Siemsen was taken to Kaiser Permanente, where he was treated for his injuries and subsequently released. Family members say his dog, Luna, was also taken to a local veterinarian for examination.
Flores, an ex-convict with a history of violence, reportedly told police who responded to the scene that his pet pit bull Blue had a tendency towards aggressive behavior. Sonoma County law enforcement reportedly arrested him based on this admission. He was charged with a single felony county of allowing a vicious dog to roam free and remains in jail on $20,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 23rd.
Mr. Flores' dog remains in the custody of Sonoma County Animal Control. No comment has yet been issued as to what will become of the animal.
While fortunately the victim in the case was not seriously injured, it will likely take him some time to recover from the emotional and physical trauma of the dog attack. He may also have to pay expensive medical and veterinary bills to cover the cost of health care for himself and his dog. Hopefully, he will speak to an experienced Santa Rosa personal injury attorney to determine whether he has a claim for damages. Under California law, dog bite victims may seek compensation for their medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering if their injuries were caused by the dog owner's negligence.
