Dog Bite Attacks Are Causing Hospital Admissions To Increase
A recent report in the New York Times from the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality has concluded that the amount of dog bites victims entering American hospitals has doubled over a 15 year period ending in 2008. The report concludes that there is also a public growing awareness that rabies can develop and an awareness and requirement of mandated health care reporting by hospital emergency rooms and medical emergency technicians. The study shows that children under 5 and adults over 65 were most likely to be hospitalized for dog bites. Rural residents are 4 times more likely to be an emergency room visitor from a dog bite than in a non-rural area.
