Dog Bites Occur With Greater Frequency In The Summer
An article in the Star Ledger of New Jersey has concluded that dog bites peak in the summer months apparently because people and their dogs are out more often than in the winter.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that 3.5 million children are bitten by dogs each year. Children under 15 make up 70% of these victims.
Even more serious, there is growing concern involving the potential transmission of different infectious diseases due to dog bites. The most serious is the MRSA infection known as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. This infection known as MRSA can spread easily through skin wounds and is very difficult to treat.
Pet owners are unaware of the ability to transmit such pathogens from their dogs to humans who they bite. Infections are a major cause of injuries from dog bites.
Be very careful if you have a dog bite injury to make certain that the bite does not develop into an infection such as MRSA where germs occur and get into the wound. A dog bite can become infected through the germs that were in the mouth of the dog.
